A simple project with an impactful result.
Four levels of stairs to carry laundry, nowhere for coats and shoes at the main entrance…we can fix that!
Our client always had a laundry shoot growing up. So when they moved into a townhouse with four stories and a laundry room in the basement they immediately thought of how useful one would be here. They also lacked any room by their garage entrance for shoes and coats. So we set out to find a route for their new laundry shoot to go while also enlarging their garage entryway.
We took over some excess storage room in their garage to incorporate it into their entryway and provide room for a bench, coat hooks and a closet. We used part of the closet as the path for the laundry shoot with room to spare for their Dyson vacuum. É voila!

Before - small hallway with no space! The garage door is down to the right. No where to put shoes and coats as you come in from the garage, and laminate floor that doesn't do well as snow and water get tracked in...

During - Wall removed to expand mud room into unused garage space

During - new drywall up, Schluter Ditra crack prevention installed for under tile

During...

During - A view down the shoooooot!

During - Cabinets installed. You can see the laundry shoot on the far left going from upper floor through the cabinet down to the basement.

During - last leg of the shoot in the laundry room. Clothes slide into a laundry bin. Total distance traveled? Almost 25 feet!!

After - closet complete (shelves being added later) with power for Dyson vacuum, and an access door into the laundry shoot to drop in clothes as they come off in the mud room

After - shiplap wall installed as a durable option behind bench with coat hooks. Cubbies above and below.

After - wide angle shot showing door into the garage

Final - ahhhhhh, more space. Functional and pretty good looking if we do say so ourselves!
